I had an old sbs 2003 sever with a failed hard drive sitting in the closet.  I put in a new hard drive and re installed sbs 2003.  I have the original disks and the OEM Microsoft License code and certificate of authenticity.  When i get the the screen where i enter the product key i get the error "product ID you entered is not valid.  Yes i have double checked the Key 10 times, but it just will not work.  Does anyone have any idea as to why this would be happening.

Exchange disconnects periodically

Hi,

We have a Windows 2003 SBS server that is causing me some problems, what happens is the clients get disconnect messages inside their Outlook email clients. This happens several times a day and I have tracked it down to a series of events which lead up to it but I cannot find the cure.

The errors from the event viewer are below:

Event Type: Information
Event Source: IISCTLS
Event Category: None
Event ID: 6
Date:  07/11/2012
Time:  08:44:24

Computer: PCSSERVER01
Description:
IIS Reset encountered an error while stopping services, which was requested by NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM.  The logged data is the status code.  Since the force option is on, IIS Reset will now terminate the services' processes.  This may cause SCM to report errors about the services exiting.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

If you did not intentionally stop the service, use the following command to see the WinRM configuration:

 winrm enumerate winrm/config/listener

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

We then get some informational alerts:

The Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) service was successfully sent a stop control.

The Microsoft Exchange Routing Engine service was successfully sent a stop control.

The Microsoft Exchange IMAP4 service was successfully sent a stop control.

The Windows Remote Management (WS-Management) service was successfully sent a stop control.

Certificate warnings - Outlook - OWA

Hi,

SBS 2011.

We started getting certificate errors and I am not sure why. We installed a certificate some time back and it worked fine. I have done some reading and tried the resolution mentioned inthis 940726 knowledge-base article. I have ensured that there is a SRV record for our internet domain:

_autodiscover._tcp.mydomain.com SRV service location:
          priority       = 5
          weight         = 10
          port           = 443
          svr hostname = remote.mydomain.com
remote.mydomain.com internet address = 192.168.0.130

Note that the address returned is from our internal address block not the public address. I am not sure is that it the problem or not. However the SSL certificate is for the host remote.mydomain.com.

I have run the SBS console and re-added the trusted certificate. However if I visit https:/remote.mydomain.com/owa or https://remote.mydomain.com/AutoDiscover/AutoDiscover.xml I get a certificate error. The certificate being pushed out is not the one I purchased or asked the SBS console to install.

Can anyone offer any pointers?

Thanks,

Dermot.

I have tried all of the recommended "Related Topics" to resolve this error.

I had the service working and then it has stopped again. I have also tried thishttp://blogs.technet.com/b/smsandmom/archive/2008/04/24/wsus-clients-stop-reporting-after-wsus-3-0-is-upgraded-to-sp1.aspx and received multiple errors when running the script.

Here is a copy of the C:/Windows/WindowsUpdate.txt file

Hi

Is there a way to give one user view permissions to server? I mean that this user would have the permission to see all the settings of the server, would see everything as administrator but could not make any changes?

Thanks in advance!!

How do I generate an active directory all user property detail list to a csv file. The information I require are eg. Organisation (Job Title, Department, etc), Telephone (Home, Pager, etc), Address, General, etc for each user.
Once the spreadsheet has been compiled, missing details will be added to the spreadsheet, then exported as a csv, to be applied back to the AD. I thank you in advance for your assistance.

SBS 2011 is final version - plans for future?

Now that Microsoft has killed SBS, what will the options be for companies with less than 75 users?  We support many SBS installations and need to start planning for the future!  I hear Microsoft may be trying to limit hosted Exchange to companies are forced to use Office 360.

I personally would like to request that Microsoft reconsider this decision and keep with the SBS line of products.

Any thoughts?

Outlook 2003: "cannot read the calendar. There is not enough memory to perform this action"

One of our customers has reported this message appears when accessing a shared calendar on SBS 2008 ( Exchange Sever 2007)

At first i thought it may be a calendar issue but if i log in as the user whose calendar it is there seems to be no problem. Could this be that the users that are seeing this message have too many profiles within Outlook ???

Any info or pointers on this would be greatly appreciated..

Thanks in Advance

SBS 2008 Default Domain Policy issue with Deployed printers

$

Some printers on our network were originally deployed using the print management console via the Default Domain Policy.  This was a mistake and they were removed from that GPO and reinstated in a different GPO set up specifically to the deployment. From that time, GP modelling and results in the GPMC have shown component errors for the Deployed printers.  Also, running gpresult /h on clients (eg the DC) showed deployed printers pointing back to the Default Domain Policy either by name or by its GUID.  Creating a new GPO with all the Default Domain Policy settings as per the SBS definition, linking this at the domain level and disabling the original Default Domain Policy removes these issues.  However, obviously the default domain policy is a special AD object, so I would like to recover this.

Is Dcgpofix.exe safe on SBS2008, or can anyone suggest alternatives?

Thanks in advance

Replacing a Self-Signed SSL in SBS2003 with a purchased one

We are using SBS2003 with RWW & Exchange (OWA) and ISA 2004. For PCI Compliance, we need to replace the self-signed certificate with a purchased one.Our domain & DNS "A record" is with Network Solutions.

1. We are unsure which SSL certificte to purchase from Network Soulutions-big difference in price. I think we need the Wildcard for use with subdomains (RWW- /remote; OWA- /exchange)?

Here are their choices: http://www.networksolutions.com/SSL-certificates/index.jsp

2. How do we replace/install the one from Network Solutions specifically. THeir instructions do not pertain to SBS2003 specifically and we are not sure if we will be receiving an Intermediate certificate (like GoDaddy requires).

We think we'll be following these instructions, but won't we be prompted to Replace, Renew, etc. since we have self-signed installed already?http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc949119(WS.10).aspx

Thank you.

Sharepoint is scaring me with its yelling.

Okay, maybe it's not yelling, but it warning me that:

The SharePoint Health Analyzer detected a condition requiring your attention.  Drives are at risk of running out of free space.
Available drive space is less than five times the value of physical memory. This is dangerous because it does not provide enough room for a full memory dump with continued operation. It also could cause problems with the Virtual Memory swap file: OS ( C:\), Logs (D:\), Data (E:\).
Examine the failing servers and delete old logs or free space on the drives.

There are couple of things that alarm me about this:

1. I'm not using Sharepoint. It's installed, sure, but it's not configured and I am uncertain it will ever be deployed.

2. I have my drives allocated as follows:
    C:\ and E:\ are on a RAID 5.
D:\ is on a mirrored pair (RAID 1)
D:\ is a TINY disc. It only holds about two days worth of Exchange transaction logs which is removed after nightly backup. So, why does Sharepoint care about that particular drive's free-space? (I also don't have a lot of space on that particular mirrored pair so increasing the size to five times physical ram (60GB) is nothing to sneeze at.

How seriously do I need to take these messages? I don't mind increasing the free space on the other disks. Is there a way to stop Sharepoint from worrying about the Logs disk?

Cheers,

m

Outlook 2003 - not enough memory or no connection

Hi

Our customer is running SBS2008 with Exchange Server 2007, they rely heavily on shared calendars and a couple of users are experiencing "cannot read the calendar. There is not enough memory to perform this action" for one of the calendars, and 2 more display as if the client isn't connected to Exchange.

What could this be.....

The clients are using Outlook 2003 sp3 on Windows XP sp3, and the shared calendars are shared via dummy users.

I have cleared out the cache in Outlook on the client side, but this hasn't seemed to work.

Many thanks in Advance.

Upgrade to SBS 2011 64-bit Standard with additional 2003 32-bit server

Our small company has been running Windows  Small Business Server 2003 for a long time but would like to upgrade to SBS 2011 to benefit from some of the newer technologies and the 64-bit advantages as well as staying current. However, there is a problem in that some of the programs running on the SBS 2003 server do not work with the 64-bit technology. Also, we have some older Macintosh PC's that I don't think will work with SBS 2011. Is it possible to upgrade to Windows SBS 2011 on a new 64-bit server computer and also have another computer running windows server (NOT SBS) 2003 32-bit such that both servers are on the same domain - the SBS 2011 being the primary server?

After the latest updates were pushed to my SBS 2011 server, all outbound email is delayed and eventually fails to be delivered. Inbound mail works fine. The last time I successfully sent outbound mail was September 22. Microsoft pushed patches out after that date and since then I can't send out mail. At first I thought it was to just a couple of domains but I recently learned all domains fail delivery from all my users.

I went to MXtoolbox and ran the tests there and all seems well, my domain is not blacklisted and everything else seems to be correct. I am not an Exchange expert and at this point I don't have a clue what to do next.

My server is fully patched with all the patches Microsoft Update/WSUS recommends or pushes out.

can I run multiple backup programs on SBS 2011?

I recently reformatted my server and reinstalled the OS. I was unable to recover Exchange mailboxes from my Windows Backup that I made just before the reformatting. Backup did not recognize my backup drives as valid backup destinations and wanted to reformat them. For the future, I would like to run multiple backup software so if I can't recover or restore from one program, I may have another option. I already own Backup Exc 2012 Small Business Edition and Backup Exec System Recovery 2010 so those would be the ones I would try first.

I am looking for redundant backups of Exchange and User documents (which are redirected to the server), not multipole total backups or bare metal restores.

BUT... would a third party backup program (running on a different schedule of course) interfere with the default Windows Backup? Would there be an issue with the integrity of databases or their logs? Or the resetting of files' archive flags (if such things still exist)?

Thank you,

Gary

sbs 2008 Journal Wrap error message event id 13568 help needed

Ive currently got a win2008 sbs server and a regular windows 2008 r2 standard dc machine.

I am ultimately migrating away from sbs to external servers for everything and the old sbs2008 server will come out of production.

I have thus far migrated exchange off of sbs as well as my file services etc.

I am stumbling on removing my sbs server due to event id 13568 in the file replication logs.

I ran dcdiag on my new domain controller and it had errors stating that it didn't have a sysvol or netlogon share. I thought this was odd. I went looking and found my sbs server has never replicated to my new server or so it would seem. I believe that the first time this happens it creates the shares needed.

I then went over to my sbs2008 server and found that the FRS log contained the 13568 error stating that the server is having joural wrap errors.

The fix it states, is to enable "Journal Wrap Automatic Restore" in the registry of the server by adding a DWORD key with the same name and adding a value of 1 to that key.

I have a system state backup completed on my sbs 2008 server.

1. is it safe to do this and will it bring anything offline?

2. will this repair and then automatically start replicating with my other DC running 2008R2 standard once complete?

I do not want to take the server offline if possible and I want to minimize issues with the domain /  active directory.

I should note that I have already transferred the FSMO roles off of the SBS server to my 2008 standard server and users started experiencing issues getting to shares etc.

I then transferred them back to the SBS server

update: I have read an article that says to do the BURFLAGS registry setting of either d2 or d4 for non-authoritative or authoritative restore of this function. I cant post the link to the article (something about my account verification) but it did go on to say these are better less aggressive options than  doing the automatic recovery.

If I do either the d2 or the d4 hex registry key...my same 2 questions above apply. Can anyone help out? most articles and links I am finding deal with 2000 and 2003. I am wondering if they also will apply to 2008?

Sahrepoint not opening action windows

My SBS sharepoint companyweb is no longer taking "new calendar", "site settings", etc.

It opens shows the calendar but when I click "new" -> "New Item:", nothing happens. I Tried to check site settings from administrator account but the same thing happened, the drop down menu opened but when I select an action, nothing happens.

This just started after last SBS updates. I am current on all patches and use IE8.

Any thoughts on what is happening is appreciated.
